Enterprise AI models and platforms
Cohere
Cohere builds AI models and applications for enterprises. Command supports chat, retrieval-augmented generation and agents; Embed and Rerank power semantic search and improve result relevance. Its North platform lets teams ground answers in internal data, draft documents and automate workflows. Developers can access models through hosted APIs or Model Vault, which provides dedicated, single-tenant inference. North also supports on-premises and air-gapped deployment, giving organizations options for working with sensitive data.
Founded in Toronto in 2019 by Aidan Gomez, Nick Frosst and Ivan Zhang, Cohere remains led by Gomez as CEO. Its research lab, Cohere Labs, develops multilingual AI through Aya, whose original research model covers 101 languages, including more than 50 previously underserved languages. The lab also contributes Global MMLU, a human-verified benchmark for evaluating models across languages.
Sacra estimates Cohere reached $240 million in annual recurring revenue in 2025. A September 2025 funding extension brought its valuation to $7 billion. Cohere acquired Reliant AI in 2026, adding biomedical datasets and specialized technology for healthcare and biopharma. Its planned combination with Aleph Alpha, announced in April 2026, targets sovereign enterprise AI; Schwarz Group committed €500 million in structured financing for an upcoming funding round.
