Victor Savkin is the co-founder and chief technology officer of Nx, which he founded with Jeff Cross, and the creator of its monorepo platform. After helping build Angular at Google, he developed infrastructure that makes complex software systems understandable to developers—and, increasingly, to coding agents.
Savkin worked with Java, Ruby, and PHP before joining Google’s Angular team, where his contributions included dependency injection, change detection, forms, and routing. He and Cross subsequently coauthored Essential Angular.
In 2016, the pair founded Nrwl, now Nx, to bring large-scale development practices beyond Google. Savkin created Nx around dependency-aware monorepo infrastructure: modeling relationships between projects, orchestrating builds, caching results, and distributing execution. His large-monorepo benchmark compares Nx and Turborepo on substantial repositories. The company expanded beyond Angular into broader JavaScript and TypeScript tooling and, in 2022, took over stewardship of Lerna.
Giving coding agents organizational context
Savkin’s newer project, Polygraph, applies these architectural ideas to AI-assisted development. His AI Engineer World’s Fair talk identifies two limitations of coding agents: they typically see only one repository, and they forget previous sessions. Developers consequently become responsible for reconstructing dependencies, explaining earlier decisions, and coordinating downstream fixes.
- A synthetic monorepo across repositories. Polygraph builds a dependency graph from repositories, packages, and APIs, then assembles relevant code into a shared environment. Agents can coordinate changes across multiple pull requests and interpret downstream CI failures together, including determining whether a producer or consumer needs fixing.
- Portable, agent-independent sessions. Savkin’s demonstration of durable sessions shows work moving between Claude, Codex, and OpenCode, across machines and between coworkers. Reviewers can resume a colleague’s development environment and question an agent about the decisions behind a pull request.
He also advocates composable software-factory workflows that connect issue tracking, repository orchestration, implementation, review, CI, and institutional memory while retaining human judgment.
