Max Brodeur-Urbas is the cofounder and chief executive of Gumloop, an AI automation company that helps employees build workflows and agents without writing code. He has developed the company from an experimental Auto-GPT interface into an enterprise platform for creating, sharing, and governing automated work.
Brodeur-Urbas studied at McGill University and worked as a software engineer at Microsoft before founding Gumloop with Rahul Behal, a former Amazon Web Services developer. His early projects included video-game moderation, bot detection, and machine-learning systems intended to separate children from adults in virtual-reality environments.
In 2023, he began building what became Gumloop in a Vancouver bedroom after noticing that enthusiasm for Auto-GPT exceeded most users’ ability to install and operate it. His initial product, AgentHub, gave them an accessible interface. He soon recognized that their requests were usually sequences of research, API calls, model queries, and other identifiable steps—not problems requiring unrestricted autonomy. AgentHub’s original launch established the architecture that followed: use conventional software for dependable orchestration and reserve AI for tasks requiring judgment.
Gumloop entered Y Combinator’s Winter 2024 batch, raised a $3.1 million seed round, and subsequently secured a $17 million Series A led by Nexus Venture Partners while its only full-time employees were its founders. Brodeur-Urbas’s ambition to build a billion-dollar company with roughly ten people described an operating philosophy, not an achieved valuation. As enterprise demand grew, he expanded hiring and announced a $50 million Series B led by Benchmark in March 2026.

- Product-led hiring: Recruiting existing customers brings in people who already understand practical use cases; hands-on work trials and uninterrupted building time reinforce individual ownership.
- Internal automation as product feedback: Gumloop automates customer research, signup qualification, outreach drafts, and support-conversation analysis, turning operational bottlenecks into product improvements. Brodeur-Urbas also publishes his own automation templates.
- Enterprise agent governance: Gumstack extends security and observability across organizational agents, including visibility into tool calls and company-data usage beyond Gumloop itself.
