Ride-hailing, delivery, and freight technology

Uber

Uber operates platforms that connect people with independent ride and delivery providers. Its app lets passengers request rides, while Uber Eats enables customers to order meals, groceries, and other goods from merchants. Uber Freight matches shippers with carriers, and Uber for Business helps organizations manage employee travel and customer rides through automated billing, expenses, and reporting.

Founders Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick developed Uber ahead of its San Francisco launch in 2010. Dara Khosrowshahi has served as CEO since 2017. Its engineering contributions include H3, a spatial indexing system released as open source in 2018. H3 groups geographic events into a hierarchy of predominantly hexagonal cells, supporting marketplace analysis, ride pricing, and dispatch without requiring analysis of every individual location.

Uber reported 208 million Monthly Active Platform Consumers in Q2 2026, counting unique monthly ride or delivery customers averaged across the quarter. In July 2026, it completed the purchase of Getir’s food-delivery business and a minority grocery-delivery stake for approximately $465 million cash. Its separate pending takeover of Delivery Hero implies a $14.8 billion equity value for the whole company. The offer opened in August 2026, with settlement expected in the second half of 2027, subject to acceptance and regulatory conditions.
