Usage-based billing infrastructure
Orb
Orb provides billing infrastructure for AI and SaaS companies, supporting usage-based pricing, hybrid subscriptions, and enterprise contracts. Teams can turn product usage into invoices, simulate pricing against historical data, and configure prepaid credits, discounts, and contract amendments. Customers include Vercel, Glean, Replit, and Supabase. Orb remains a standalone product within Adyen, with customers able to retain their preferred payment processor.
Founded in 2021 by CEO Alvaro Morales and Kshitij Grover, Orb separates usage ingestion from pricing calculations. Its query-based billing architecture lets teams define new metrics over historical events, incorporate late data, and trace charges to usage and pricing rules. Grover, Orb’s CTO, has detailed Hosted Rollups, which manages configurable aggregation for high-volume workloads rather than requiring customers to maintain their own processing pipelines.
In its 2024 Series B announcement, Orb reported that its customer base had tripled since the start of 2024. That $25 million round brought cumulative funding to $44 million. Adyen’s acquisition of Orb closed on July 1, 2026, following an agreement disclosing $335 million in total consideration. The acquisition connects Orb’s billing infrastructure with Adyen’s payments business.
